Controversies and Conundrums in Cardiac Cachexia: Key Questions About Wasting in Patients With HFrEF

In collaboration with Dr Ilonze, from the Krannert Cardiovascular Research Center at Indiana University School of Medicine, and members of the NutritionHF team Lauren Parsly Read-Button MPH RD LPN and Dr Saltzman, Dr Vest led a state of the art review of cardiac cachexia. This manuscript seeks to answer common questions about the diagnosis, management and implications of wasting in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction and proposes an extension to the pneumonic for stage D HF recognition to include cachexia as a defining component of advanced disease: “C-I-NEED-HELP”
